Welcome to the Mordecai Archives!

An Archives is a special place where one-of-a-kind history material is kept and taken care of ----- things like letters, photographs, diaries, documents, maps, and scrapbooks.    You cannot check out these original pieces of history like you can check out history books from a library. Why do you think that is? Think about what would happen if lots of people touched a very old document, or if an old document was left in the sunlight, or if it got wet.  

To keep this special history material safe archivists often make copies and then let people use the copies to do their research. This website has been created using copies of primary sources that will help you research the life of a man named George Washington Mordecai.
